City Cancels Movies in the Park

Roseburg, OR – In an effort to mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19 and in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Orders, the City of Roseburg has canceled Movies in the Park. City staff hope to bring the event back in summer 2021.

The annual event, held in Stewart Park, attracts hundreds of visitors each Friday evening in June to the half shell stage, where families can enjoy pre-movie entertainment and a free movie. Due to the size of crowds generated by the event, City staff determined that implementing social distancing measures would not be possible.

Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator, Val Ligon, comments on the cancellation. “We made the decision to cancel Movies in the Park based on safety,” says Ligon. “Our community has done a great job of slowing the spread of COVID-19, and we do not want to undo that work by creating a situation where the virus could resurface.”

The City would like to thank all of the staff, event sponsors and volunteers who participated in the planning of this year’s Movies in the Park. Additionally, the City thanks all of the families and friends of the event for their patience and understanding.

Movies in the Park is sponsored by Roseburg Parks & Recreation, US Cellular and Rogue Credit Union.
