Library Friends to hold September book sale
ROSEBURG, Ore. – Community volunteers and donations are being sought for the Friends of the Roseburg Public Library’s Fall Book Sale in early September.
The bargain book sale will feature library withdrawals and donated books in good condition all selling for 50 cents or less in the Ford Room at the library, 1409 N.E. Diamond Lake Blvd. Children’s books and mass-market paperbacks will sell for 25 cents. The sale will include some science fiction, DVDs and audiobooks.
The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3. All materials will be 25 cents Saturday.
“People are always lined up on the first day,” said Friends of the Roseburg Public Library Vice President Marcy Tassano.
The Friends of the Roseburg Public Library hold quarterly book sales in the library’s Ford Room. Inside the library’s main room, the Friends also maintain a permanent bookstore featuring free magazines and a wide range of books for up to 50 cents each. Those items also will go on sale at half price Saturday, Sept. 3. Proceeds raised by the Friends benefit the library’s collections, programs and projects. Over the past year, such funding has supported author visits, the Summer Reading Program, craft supplies and other projects.
Volunteers are needed to help during the sale; set up at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31; and take down the sale at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3. Volunteers don’t need to be able to lift a box of books, Tassano said. To volunteer, call the library at 541-492-7050 or email email@example.com.
The Friends of the Roseburg Public Library will accept donations of good quality books, DVDs and audiobooks on CD. Donations can be dropped off at the library front desk during library hours. The Friends also accept magazines published in the last three years.
Magazines older than three years can be recycled for free at Sisters Shredding, 193 NE Exchange Drive in Roseburg, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Those wishing to donate or buy encyclopedia sets should first contact the library at 541-492-7050 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The Friends matches sellers with buyers and does not handle the physical sets because of their size and weight.
