Library to host virtual visit with author

ROSEBURG, OR – Roseburg Public Library invites the community to a Facebook Live streaming event with Oregon author Eileen Garvin on Thursday, Dec. 2.

During the virtual visit, Garvin will focus the discussion on her debut novel, “The Music of Bees,” which follows three grieving strangers brought together at a honeybee farm in rural Oregon. Garvin resides in Hood River with her husband, cat and honeybees. She has released one other book, a memoir, about growing up with her sister.

In recent years, Garvin entered the world of beekeeping and now is enrolled in the Master Beekeeper Program with the OSU Extension Service. This newfound hobby is what brought her to write “The Music of Bees.”

Bestselling author Laurie Frankel has called the book “a hopeful, heartwarming, uplifting story about the power of chosen family and newfound home and beginning again.” The book was a “Good Morning America” Buzz Pick and a Good Housekeeping Book Club pick, and the book has been recommended by many publications, including People magazine and The Washington Post.

Copies of “The Music of Bees” may still be available through the library. Place holds on a physical copy of the book by logging into the library’s online catalog at roseburg.biblionix.com with a 14-digit Roseburg Public Library card number (the default password is the phone number used to register the account). “The Music of Bees” also is available as an electronic book and audiobook through the OverDrive (Libby) and cloudLibrary digital platforms.

To view the livestream on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m., go to Facebook.com/RoseburgLibrary. A Facebook account is not required.

Speaker questions may be submitted before the event to Lydia Rathe at lrathe@cityofroseburg.org or 541-492-7052. Alternately, viewers who have a Facebook account may post questions during the event by commenting on the live stream.

Garvin keeps a regular blog that can be found on her website at www.eileengarvin.com.
