Stuart CowieCommunity Development Director
The Community Development Department has two primary responsibilities; Comprehensive (long‐range) Planning and Current Planning (short‐range). Comprehensive Planning consists of helping develop and implement the City’s land use policies, which includes maintaining and updating the Comprehensive Plan and the Land Development Code. Current Planning consists of all new development applications such as site development, subdivisions, planned unit developments, conditional use permits, historic preservation, sign permits, etc. In addition, the Community Development Department provides the management and coordination of the various community development functions: Economic Development, Historic Preservation, Code Compliance, and the Community’s Floodplain Program. We also provide staff support to the Planning Commission, Economic Development Commission, Historic Resource Review Commission, City Council, and various other committees.
