The deadline to file nomination petitions is Tuesday, August 25, 2020 by 5pm.

With election season beginning, candidates are reminded to communicate their campaign message through signage and other various marketing collateral. However, posting campaign signs must comply with Oregon State law (ORS 377.720) and the Roseburg Municipal Code. For example, signs should be no more than 32 square feet, and the entire campaign message must be contained on one sign. Additionally, campaign signs are not to be placed on sidewalks or any other public right-of-way.

Now is a great time to get to know your neighbors and constituents by knocking on doors and collecting signatures. Nevertheless, please be courteous while campaigning within the City. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, please maintain a social distance of six feet or more while collecting signatures. Posting campaign signs on private property is allowed, but only if the property owner gives permission.

Additionally, campaign signs are not allowed on or within the following:

  • Public parks.
  • Utility poles.
  • Bridges or other scenic areas.
  • On fences, trees or other publicly posted signs.
  • Within a public right-of-way, such as a sidewalk.

Campaign signs that are found to be in violation of the City Code will be removed and stored at the Public Works Shop, which is located at 425 NE Fulton St. Signs will be held for 10 days, after which they will be disposed if not collected by the owner. If a resident believes that one of their signs is being held by the City, please contact the Public Works Department as soon as possible at 541-492-6730 or pwd@cityofroseburg.org.

Campaign signs are allowed for up to 90 days between August 5, 2020 and Election Day, which is November 3. After Election Day, all campaign signs must be removed by November 6, 2020.

For more information about the City election process, please contact the City Recorder, Amy Sowa, at asowa@cityofroseburg.org or call 541-492-6866.
