City Receives Top Finance Award for Fifth Consecutive Year
Roseburg OR – The City of Roseburg has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Financial Reporting (PAFR). This is the fifth consecutive year that the GFOA has bestowed the City with this award, coming hot on the heels of its recent Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) award designation.
The award represents a significant achievement by the City of Roseburg. In order to be eligible for the PAFR award, a government must also submit its CAFR to GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellent in Financial Reporting Program and receive the CAFR award for the current fiscal year. Judges, who evaluate the report, review each eligible report based on the following categories: reader appeal, understandability, distribution methods, creativity and other elements.
City Finance Director, Ron Harker, explains more about the PAFR and what this means for residents. “The PAFR is designed to provide a summary view of financial activities of the City,” says Harker. “It is a high-level report for citizens who wish to learn more about Roseburg finances and is designed to engage citizens that may not be well versed in reading highly detailed financial reports such as the CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report). It is our belief that participation in the GFOA award program enhances our citizens’ understanding of Roseburg finances and demonstrates our belief that sharing financial information in formats consistent with the highest standards in government financial reporting is the best way to achieve financial transparency. We are thrilled to have earned this award for a fifth consecutive year.”
