Audubon, Library to stream visit with writer
ROSEBURG, Ore. – The Umpqua Valley Audubon Society and Roseburg Public Library invite the community to a Facebook Live streaming event with Oregon nature writer, journalist and environmentalist Marina Richie at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Richie is the author of “Halcyon Journey: In Search of the Belted Kingfisher,” which won a 2022 National Outdoor Book Award from the National Outdoor Book Awards Foundation, the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education, and Idaho State University. Writing as Deborah Richie Oberbillig, she also has published the children’s books “Bird Feats of Montana” and “Bug Feats of Montana.”
Richie has written for “BirdWatching,” “National Wildlife, “Audubon,” “A.T. Journeys,” “Montana Naturalist” and the University of Montana’s “Vision” and “Research View” magazines, as well as literary journals. She has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Montana and an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Oregon. For more, visit her website at marinarichie.com.
In her presentation, Richie will create a visual journey featuring “Halcyon Journey,” a first-person narrative threading natural history, myth and memoir. She will read excerpts and delve into the secretive behaviors of North America’s beloved fishing bird and American Birding Association’s 2023 Bird of the Year.
A moderated Q&A session will follow the presentation. Questions may be submitted before the event to Library staff at library@cityofroseburg.org or 541-492-7051. Alternately, viewers who have a Facebook account may post questions during the event by commenting on the live stream.
