City buildings to close for Fourth of July
ROSEBURG, Ore. – City of Roseburg buildings will be closed Tuesday, July 4, in observance of the Fourth of July Independence Day holiday.
Roseburg City Hall, the Roseburg Public Safety Center, Roseburg Public Library and other City buildings will be closed to the public. Police and firefighters will continue to provide public safety throughout the holiday.
Lobbies at City Hall, 900 S.E. Douglas Ave., and the Public Safety Center, 700 S.E. Douglas Ave., are normally open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The holiday commemorates July 4, 1776, when the Continental Congress of the 13 American colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. Early celebrations included bonfires, concerts, parades, musket and cannon fire, and public readings of the Declaration of Independence.
