ROSEBURG, Ore. – City of Roseburg buildings will be closed Monday, May 30, for Memorial Day.

Roseburg City Hall, the Roseburg Public Safety Center, Roseburg Public Library and other City buildings will be closed to the public. Police and firefighters will continue to provide public safety throughout the holiday.

Observed on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day honors everyone who died while serving in the U.S. military. The federal holiday originally known as Decoration Day began to be observed in springtime after the Civil War as a day to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers killed in that war. The holiday later became known as Memorial Day and is used to honor Americans who died in all wars.

Lobbies at City Hall, 900 S.E. Douglas Ave., and the Public Safety Center, 700 S.E. Douglas Ave., are normally open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., although City Hall closes for the lunch hour. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
