City buildings to close on Monday, Feb. 19
ROSEBURG, Ore. – City of Roseburg buildings will be closed Monday, Feb. 19, for Washington’s Birthday, also known as Presidents Day.
Roseburg City Hall, the Roseburg Public Safety Center, Roseburg Public Library and other City buildings will be closed to the public. Police and firefighters will continue to provide public safety throughout the holiday.
Lobbies at City Hall, 900 S.E. Douglas Ave., and the Public Safety Center, 700 S.E. Douglas Ave., are normally open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. The library’s regular hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is closed to the public Sundays and Mondays.
The U.S. Code, which specifies holidays for federal employees, lists this under the name designated in the law – Washington’s Birthday -- in celebration of the Feb. 22 birthday of the nation’s first president, George Washington, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. However, state and local governments often refer to the third Monday in February as “Presidents Day” as a way to honor all U.S. presidents, including Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is Feb. 12.
