ROSEBURG, Ore. – Nearly half of the Roseburg City Council will be new and attending their first Council meeting when the Council reconvenes on Monday, Jan. 9, to hear Mayor Rich present the State of the City address.

On Tuesday, Jan. 3, City Recorder Amy Sowa administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Larry Rich, who was re-elected in November; newly elected Councilors Kylee Rummel, Shelley Briggs Loosley, Ellen Porter and Ruth Smith; and recently appointed Councilor David Mohr. About 25 people attended the public ceremony in the Roseburg Public Safety Center’s Umpqua Room.

“This is the most I’ve ever seen. This is great,” Sowa told the crowd before swearing in Rich and the five councilors.

Rummel was appointed in May to replace Alison Eggers in Ward 1 and Briggs Loosley was appointed in June 2021 to replace Sheila Cox in Ward 2. Porter was elected to Ward 3 and Smith was elected to Ward 4 to replace City Councilors Bob Cotterell and Beverly Cole, respectively, who retired Dec. 31 after not seeking re-election in the Nov. 8 general election.

On Dec. 12, the City Council appointed Mohr to replace Ward 1 Councilor Sheri Moothart, who resigned in early October to focus on a new job.

Roseburg City Council meetings are held at 7 p.m. on second and fourth Mondays of each month. For more information, check out the Roseburg City Council webpage.
