Garden Valley Boulevard repairs to start
ROSEBURG, Ore. – Drivers should use caution and expect detours and delays when road maintenance will close a short section of Garden Valley Boulevard starting Saturday, Sept. 7.
The Roseburg Public Works Department has hired a contractor to repair the road base on a 100- foot section of Garden Valley Boulevard between Stephens and Dee streets. Work to repair a grade failure below the road surface will be performed between 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, and 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9.
Traffic control and signs will be in place to detour motorists around the closure. Traffic moving north on Stephens Street will be required to detour further north onto NE Stewart Parkway and then use NE Airport Road. Southbound traffic on Stephens Street will be detoured around the closure by heading further south to NE Chestnut Avenue and then turning north onto NE Cedar Street.
Challenges with summer road projects include accommodating vehicle and pedestrian traffic through work zones and keeping road construction workers safe in an era of increased distracted driving, said Roseburg Public Works Design/Construction Manager Ryan Herinckx, who asks drivers not to text on cell phones in a construction zone.
“We ask that motorists pay attention and use caution when driving through work zones,” he said.
The City appreciates the public’s understanding and patience throughout the project.
