Library and Audubon to host nature essayist
NOTE: This event was canceled, effective Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022.
ROSEBURG, OR – Roseburg Public Library and the Umpqua Valley Audubon Society invite the community to a Facebook Live streaming event with Oregon author and retired literature instructor Michael Baughman at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17.
Baughman will focus his presentation on “An Old Man Remembering Birds,” his collection of short essays inspired by his lifelong fascination with birds. Rather than simple accounts of bird watching, Baughman’s essays reflect on human-animal relations and why humans seek closeness with nature. Throughout the book, he discusses the altered patterns of bird life as a result of environmental change and wildfires and his ever-growing love of birds.
Baughman retired to Ashland after teaching writing and literature at Southern Oregon University from 1966 to 1996. “An Old Man Remembering Birds,” published by Oregon State University Press, is his ninth book.
“An Old Man Remembering Birds” is available through the library. Place holds on a physical copy of the book by logging into the library’s online catalog at roseburg.biblionix.com with a 14-digit Roseburg Public Library card number. The default password is the phone number used to register the account.
