Roseburg Library to host geology program
ROSEBURG, Ore. – Roseburg Public Library invites the public to “Mt. Eddy: Inhospitable Rock, Harsh Climes, Tenacious Flora” presented by Larry Broeker at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21.
Broeker, a retired geologist at Umpqua National Forest, will discuss the geology and geobotany of north-central California’s Mt. Eddy -- at 9,025-feet elevation, the highest summit in the Klamath Mountains province.
The recently ice-scoured, island-in-the-sky massif is composed of rock that is impoverished in essential plant macronutrients and laden with elevated amounts of metals. A dazzling array of plant species has adapted to the hostile substrate and unforgiving physical environment atop Mt. Eddy through a variety of structural and genetic responses.
The program, which will be held at the library located at 1409 NE Diamond Lake Blvd., is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Roseburg Public Library staff at 541-492-7050 or library@cityofroseburg.org.
