SE Stephens Street water main project begins
ROSEBURG, Ore. – A water main replacement project in SE Stephens Street began Wednesday, Nov. 13 – leading to a daytime lane closure that could impact traffic heading into downtown.
Portions of one northbound lane of SE Stephens Street will be closed from Sykes Street to Oak Avenue from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for the next six months. One lane will always remain open.
The project will replace about 2,700 linear feet of 6-inch cast iron water transmission pipe in Stephens Street with 12-inch ductile iron. The existing pipe was installed between 1928 and 1935, said Acting Public Works Director Ryan Herinckx.
“The reason this project’s happening now is we plan to resurface the road in the summer of ’26,” he added.
The Roseburg Public Works Department has contracted with Cradar Enterprises of Roseburg to undertake the project.
The City appreciates motorists’ understanding and patience throughout the project, and asks motorists to use caution when traveling through the work zone.
