Serve your community on a City commission
ROSEBURG, Ore. – Want to become more engaged in your community this year?
Consider serving on a City commission or committee.
The City is taking applications from people interested in filling vacancies on the Roseburg Library Commission or the Budget Committee to serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council.
The Library Commission has one vacancy and the Budget Committee, which meets temporarily as needed in the spring to review the City’s proposed annual operating budget, has three vacancies.
Vacancies typically arise at the start of each year as commissioners with expiring terms notify commission chairs about whether they wish to continue serving. Each volunteer position is appointed to serve a three-year term.
Applicants for the Library Commission must live within Roseburg’s urban growth boundary. Applicants for the Budget Committee must live in city limits.
The application deadline for the Budget Committee is 5 p.m. Friday, March 29. There’s no deadline for Library Commission applications, which will be reviewed weekly. The vacancies will remain open until filled.
The Library Commission meets at 4 p.m. on the third Tuesdays of each month. The group considers efficient, effective library operations; develops and recommends long-range plans for library services; reviews current trends, library-related technology, and terms and conditions for contracts and working relationships with private and public agencies; assists with annual reports; and advocates for the library budget, events and programs. Library Commission Chair Andrea Zielinski, who is also a City Councilor, will review applications, contact applicants for possible interviews and recommend a candidate’s appointment to the Mayor and Council.
The Budget Committee meets as needed, usually at 7:00 p.m. in the spring to review the proposed annual operating budget and supplemental budgets, and then make recommendations to the City Council regarding final budget approval.
Online applications and more information about each commission can be found on the City’s “Commissions” webpage. Residents also can get applications emailed to them by requesting one via email at info@cityofroseburg.org. Completed online applications should be emailed to info@cityofroseburg.org.
In addition, residents can pick up applications by visiting the Administration Department at City Hall, 900 SE Douglas Ave., and then mail in applications to that address or drop applications off at the City Hall lobby.
